  16. Welcome to VMiX 386, protected mode multitasking and multiuser DOS enhancer.
  17.  
  18.      Graphics modes are now supported by the shareware version.
  19.      MSDOS 5.0 relocation to high memory is supported.
  20.      Loading of TSRs to upper memory is also provided.
  21.      Distributed multitasking within several linked VMiX hosts.
  22.      Start new windows with Shift-Enter, after a command line.

  24. The shareware version is bigger and slower than the 386 version because
  25. it is coded in 8086 code, since it must runs in all 8088 PCs and 386's,
  26. other than that it is identical in capability to the commercial version.
  27.  
  28. The commercial version is coded in 386 code, hence it is smaller and faster.
  29. Both versions support up to eight tasks and will use extended memory space,
  30. if available.  The commercial version will not run in 8088 or 8086 PCs, so
  31. the 8086 version is also included as a separate file in the Registered
  32. Package.

  34. The 386 coded shareware version is available 24Hrs. from our BBS (listed
  35. below).

  37. The user interface is the same, regardless of the processor detected in
  38. your PC or AT (8088, 8086, 80286, or 80386/486).  With the 386, each new
  39. task receives its own 640Kb memory partition by mapping extended memory,
  40. in virtual 8086 mode.

  42. VMiX can handle applications that write directly to the screen by
  43. virtualizing the video in 386 mode.  In 8088 and 286 mode, virtualization
  44. is simulated by using different video pages or graphics modes.

  50. We assume that you do not wish to go through a lot of documentation before
  51. starting to use VMiX, so we have included the file VMiX.DOC as a quick
  52. start-up guide.  An on-line manual is included as TECHREF.DOC, however the
  53. printed documentation will usually be more complete.
